Pentax Optio E60 10MP Digital Camera Review
Today’s review takes a look at yet another digital camera, the Pentax Optio E60. We’re seeing a lot of inexpensive digital cameras on the secondary closeout and refurbished market, including several Pentax models. How does the Optio E60 compare to it’s Pentax stablemates and it’s competitors? Lets’ find out…
Review Continued Below…
The ‘tale of the tape’ shows us that the Pentax Optio E60 is a 10MP camera equipped with the typical features in the price range such as 3x optical zoom, face recognition technology, digital shake reduction and video. The 2.4 inch LCD screen is a bit small compared to others in the market but is otherwise adequate. It uses AA batteries for power rather than a rechargeable battery pack. It only has very stingy 6.3mb of storage built in so an SD card is really required to be able to use this camera effectively.
The real test of a digital camera is how well it does take photos and here’s how I saw the Pentax Optio E60 performing. In my test run with it I found that it did OK outdoors but was notably lacking in a residential setting with incandescent lighting. I also noted some fuzziness or graininess in some pictures taken at higher ISO settings and magnifications. The video quality was also poor. I’ve seen better video taken with cell phones. I was rather disappointed with it because it reminded me more of one of my first digital cameras from 2002 rather than comparing well with modern day cameras.
The downsides of the Pentax Optio E60 10MP Digital Camera are considerable beyond just the lack of photo quality as compared to it’s peers in the marketplace. The LCD screen is small. The user interface is plain and dated looking. The lack of onboard memory demands the purchase of an SD card to make the camera useable. And, lastly, the lack of rechargeable batteries means that you’ll have to stay well stocked on AA batteries in order to avoid missing shots. I found the battery life to be quite short.
The bottom line is that the Pentax Optio E60 10MP Digital Camera is rather dated in comparison to other brands and even other Pentax models. It’s no wonder that they’re blowing this camera out on the closeout circuit, they want it out of their warehouse to make room for a decent inexpensive camera. My suggestion is to look elsewhere for your low cost digital camera needs.

Good review, thanks. I once tried this camera, it appeared to be not comfortable for me, so I didn’t buy it then
This company is not so popular like other for example sony or Kodak..I won’t suggest buying this..
Wait, what? Pentax? Not popular? You’d recommend a Kodak digital over a Pentax?
Good review. I don’t put much faith in the Pentax line and it sounds like this camera especially is pretty lacking. Poor photo quality and a dated presentation means this one’s a no no
This camera definitely won’t feature on my list of must-have toys! Too often one looks at the megapixels and not much else. 10MP is impressive, but the rest of the package definitely disappoints!
Pentax use to be one of the top cameras but has really fallen by the way side. I think digital transition did them in.
Cannon Have captured their market
I’ve never been much of a fan when it comes to Pentax’s digital line. Megapixels really don’t mean much in this day and age, and it sounds like the overall product isn’t worth the purchase. Nice review.
I’ve discovered a lot of brands that aren’t worth it hike up their megapixels, misleading casual consumers. However, when you actually take a look at their cameras, they’re pretty rotten.
Thanks for the advice here!
Frank - you are a great source of information on crap cheap cameras - I will never buy one without checking with you on your latest cheap digital camera review!
Hah, such a great way of putting it. You do seem to find the best and worst of these lowest price cameras! It helps us be cheap though
Lol, I never understood why companies create junk like this… But one has to wonder: there’s obviously a marked for cameras that stink or they wouldn’t make it.
Andy
It’s for people who see cheap cameras and think they’re getting a deal. Little do they know…
A friend of mine has this camera and I’ve seen it in use, and its quality is definitely lacking. Your review is dead on with this.
Pentax is good camera, but I prefer Canon or Nikon digital cameras…
Thanks for your review… Frank
10.1 megapixel CCD provides beautiful, detailed images in an entry-level camera, which may be printed as 8×10 inch enlargements (and larger) in clear resolution with impressive image quality.AA batteries make the E60 convenient for travel to any destination, without having to lug around a charger.
It sounds like I need to keep looking for a good camera to take travelling the Pentax Optio E60 10MP Digital Camera just doesn’t seem offer the quality of image that I want - though the size and price aer appealing
I have a digital camera and its been acting weird. I won’t let you take pictures because it says on the bottom right corner that its on lock. I looked through the manual and I asked a bunch of people but they don’t know how to get it off lock.
A respected maker of film cameras, Pentax has turned its sights on the digital camera business. Though Pentax produces a wide range ofPentax digital cameras, from tiny point & shoots to full-featured SLRs, the bulk of the company’s line is composed of its compact Optio series cameras
