I agree that this unit is really missing out on delivering quality to the consumer by not allowing the Sansa to be used as the alarm. There is something very comforting about telling your alarm clock which music to play to awaken you, and at what volume. Too bad the engineers missed the point.

I agree: isnt a computer's usb port designed to charge your mp3 player LOL The Timex TS70B Clock Radio sounds like a waste of space and money: but then i hate all alarm clocks on principal whether or not they will charge my Sensa mp3 player!

I just checked prices. They've come down a bit since I priced them over a year ago now but they're still pricey at about $30 a pop, about the same price that you can sometimes find the TS70B. The problem is that proprietary USB interface that Sansa digital music players have, one of the big annoyances with that line of player.

You can get some generic chargers that are cheaper and are supposed to work but if they apply power to the wrong connector ZAP! your player is a paperweight.

I guess if you think of the Timex TS70B Clock Radio as a charger with a radio attached it makes sense.

Wow, $40 or $50 for a charger ... that really is pricey.

Hi Minnesota,

I guess it's handy as a charger if you don't want to plug into your computer's USB port overnight. I hear some people actually turn their computer off sometimes, who would have thought that? :)

As I recall, the Sansa standalone chargers were rather pricey, in the $40-50 range, so if a charger is the goal, it isn't a bad deal if you can get a good price on it.

I don't begin to understand the point of the Timex TS70B Clock Radio ... if I can't wake up to a playlist on my MP3 player, what's the reason for this thing to exist?

I like the idea of a fade out to sleep mode but you're right ... it needs to work as an alarm too.
