The additional audio formats the iriver E100 can play is a big selling point, probably enough to overcome the quirky controls and interface if that’s something you really need in a digital music player.

Interesting points. As it happens, I don’t particularly need either of those features so hadn’t considered them … but I can see how they’d be deal-breakers for many people.

And yes, I agree with you about Apple products; but generally, I’ve been willing to pay for them, at least for iPods and Macs. I’m a big Mac-head from way back, although I reluctantly switched to Windows when I went in-house for a job some years ago and wanted to be compatible at home.

That’s a disapointment because quite frankly I don’t like iPods (over priced for what they are) and I do want a new MP3 player so I was wondering about the iriver E100. I like to have the option to listen to the radio as well so if the iriver E100 can’t do that for the price I am less than impressed! Does it have a built in battery, another thing I dislike about iPods, or can u charge it off any old USB port. Thanks for another interesting review

As I mentioned in a couple of earlier reviews I liked the Sansa Sandisk I used to own. I’ve thought about buying another one and I still may do that but I want to try out, or at least investigate, a few other options.

Hi Cect,

I’m not a big fan of the iPod. I’ve got a lot of music in the WMA format plus I like subscription music and the iPod is useless for either of these. I’ve always thought that Apple products were well engineered but way overpriced as compared to the rest of the marketplace.

This is the second review of the iriver E100 I’ve read that wasn’t particularly complimentary. It’s a shame… the specs on the iriver E100 make it look really good, but they just don’t seem to have got the details right.

Like most other people, I would think seriously about getting an iPod, but I really want an MP3 player that has an FM radio too, like the iriver E100 does. Any suggestions for an alternative to the iriver E100?

I have to disagree about the iriver E100, I bought one couple of weeks ago and have been very impressed with it. I love the fact that it can play FLAC files, because I download a lot of concert recordings and enjoy listening to those on my iriver E100.

I agree that the user interface isn’t great, but I tend to play quite long files anyway and don’t switch between playlists that often, at least on the road. Sorry you didn’t have such a good experience with your iriver E100.
