I've been using a Pentax Optio digital camera for some years now, and it's been a really good performer.

Two reasons for buying it: My friend who is a camera expert had just bought one, and it fits comfortably and securely in an Altoids mint tin!

But I know that it is hopelessly out of date, and I really could be looking at something better. The Kodak C813 8.2 Megapixel Digital Camera looks like a very good alternative, because I'm really not much of a photographer, more of a point-and-shoot guy. I'll have to look out for a good price on the Kodak C813 8.2 Megapixel Digital Camera.

Thank you for this review. I am just starting to investigate digital cameras and one has to start somewhere! I don't own one yet. I still don't see the quality I am used to with my old Pentax SLR. At least not at the price I can afford.

Frank, I like that your reviews (especially your digital camera reviews) are thorough and unbias. I'm a huge fan of the Casio 7MP Exilim that I've had a couple years. I judge all other cameras by it. I love the 2.5" LCD screen on the back. I wouldn't want a smaller screen. I especially love that it has a rechargeable battery that seems to last FOREVER. Digital cameras can EAT batteries for lunch, and buying AA's can add up (if you have to though, try Costco). I surprised that with the Kodak you have to buy the rechargable battery SEPERATE, as well as the docking station. The SD card makes sense, since you can then decide how much storage you want, and you can swap them out on vacation if you have extras, and because you can get a bigger card down the road if prices go down. Again, your reviews are great. Do you ever review trade show booths? Thanks as always for the opportunity to comment. ~ Steve, the man of many trade show booths

Cheap cameras like the Kodak C813 8.2 Megapixel Digital Camera are OK if you want something to throw in your pocket and run with. When I doing travel photography I really need a much better camera than the Kodak C813 8.2 Megapixel Digital Camera. For me a camera for travel has got to have a decent telephoto lens: you just can't take a good shot without it: especially of people. I hate pushing the lens of any digital camera into someones face. Having something that runs on AA batteries is great though because u can buy those anywhere My fuji finepix 5500 is getting a bit old now but I think it will stay take better pictures than your Kodak C813 8.2 Megapixel Digital Camera!
