BMDBuddy - URL Search Assistant for Bookmarking Demon

The social bookmarking tool, Bookmarking Demon, can be of great help when you want to build links for your site. However, when you want to add your links to the big name social bookmarking sites, they frown upon you just adding your links. It has been suggested by the makers of the software and others that you add additional links to your Bookmarking Demon runs to provide an air of legitimacy to your links on these bookmarking sites. The problem is that most people go with top level links of very popular sites which don’t blend well with deep blog links nor add value to the social bookmarking site itself. What can you do?

BMDBuddy to the Rescue!

BMDBuddy Screenshot

BMDBuddy helps you retrieve and add additional, deep, worthwhile links to your Bookmarking Demon runs. Your links are added to the sites without them looking spammy and the social bookmarking site gets a set of relevant, worthwhile, links in addition to your own (hopefully) worthwhile links.

How To Use BMDBuddy

To use it, you start by adding the URLs for your own links in the text area on top marked “Your URLs”. Then you click “Generate URL List” button. BMDBuddy then searches through RSS feeds, using the same RSS feed search engine as my previous program Link Luv Post Builder. It selects a random number of links and blends these links into a list with your own links. You can view the results list in the lower text area entitled “URL List for Bookmarking Demon”. Now, click on the “Save URL List for Bookmarking Demon” button, chose a file name, and you’re ready to load your newly generated list into Bookmarking Demon itself.

To load the list into Bookmarking Demon, simply go to the “Bookmark URL” tab and click on the “Load TXT” button. Select your newly created file and it will be loaded into BMD. You will need to add the description and tags for your URLs although the ones from the feeds will already have this information. You’ll be ready to begin your run after you do this.

What’s It Cost?

BMDBuddy is donation ware. You can download it for free and use it as you wish. However, I would greatly appreciate it if you gave a donation to support its development and further enhancements to it. My recommended donation is $17 but you can give less or more as you like.

You may download BMDBuddy at this link: BMDBuddy Download

If you do donate $17 or more, I’ll give you a bonus package of PLR articles and mini-web site templates as well.

If you have comments about, enhancement suggestions for or installation questions about BMDBuddy, please leave them below.

Frank,
As Alway you have some very good ideas. The BMDBuddy is an excellent Idea I look forward to trying out. I have just started using Book Marking Demon myself but can see where BMDBuddy will definately be and advantage. This should come in very handy for everyone trying to promote their BANS or niche sites
Thanks Again,
Gotafish

Hi Frank,

Just kinda fiddling around with this. Awesome tool. And I figured Id throw this out there, but when it comes to adding the keywords and description for your own urls, you can click add url in bmd and type in your url that you have already added with bmdbuddy and then load from meta tags, and it replaces your site url that was loaded from bmdbuddy with no keywords/description with your meta keyword/descriptions. This way you still dont have to manually go in there and add your keywords or description. You can still load from the meta tags. Oh, and donated the $17 bucks ;) Thanks for the sweet tool Frank.

Thanks Will,

Thanks for the additional information. I’ve usually just entered my own descriptions to make the more unique but that’s a good technique to pick up the existing meta tags.

Thanks Denise,

Let me know if you have any trouble with it.

I think there may be some issues with some firewalls. I may have to write a “slow mode” to simulate a browsing session by a user. I like to write programs for the best performance but sometimes things get in the way and you have to slow things down.

Hey Frank, now I can stop spending way to much time trying to think of links to use. This is probably the most needed and useful tool I have tried in a while. It works like a charm, have not had a problem.

Thanks Again,
Jason

Frank,

I keep on getting an error when I try to run it( could be because it’s my work computer). If you want to see the screenshot shoot me an email and I will send it to you. It looks like a convenient piece of software. If you don’t get much money for this it would be funny if you could program it to randomly pull one of your links off of your site each time someone uses it. ;o)

Hi Dennis,

Email sent, thanks…

There are some possible issues with some firewall software blocking the program that I’m looking into. If you’re using a firewall that could be the problem. I’ve got some ideas on how to get around this problem but the trade off is in performance, as in slow performance.

Frank,
I also have my laptop I take to work and I get the same errors. Both are running XP. Again shoot me an email if you want me to send you a screenshot.

Thanks Dennis,

The error that you got indicated that the program could not retrieve the feeds. Sometimes firewalls prevent unauthorized programs from accessing the Internet and this may be what is happening. I’m looking at a possible work around that would automate IE to read the feeds but this will impact performance and some security programs may still block it.

WOW! People are always thinking…. what a great tool! Bookmarking demon is pretty nice, but it did always seem spammy to me. This will really help it to not seem spammy, and to actually contribute to the social media sites.

Hi LBB,

Yes, BMD can be spammy, particularly if it’s used to push 100’s of links to a mainstream social media site. This technique insures a better variety of links but one should also limit the number of BMD runs to these mainstream sites so as not to spam.

BMD Buddy is so nice to work with. I have had no issues. Makes running my legit sites on Bookmarking Demon so much quicker. No longer have to waste time looking for sites to blend in with my own.

Works Great!

Some very nice idea you have coming out here. Do you code yourself or hire an outside coder? And which language do you code in?

I’ve dabbled in VB/C++, but mainly play with PHP.

Hi Nashville,

I do my own programming. I’ve been programming professionally for 20 years.

BMDBuddy is written in VB.NET. I also write programs in C# but I find that it’s easier for me to put ideas into code using VB.NET.

This is great except that everytime you do it you have to manually put in all the info for your own sites. Am I missing something? That takes forever.

2008-06-08 19:22:43

Hi Sarah,

It should retain the last info you entered. If that’s not working right, let me know and I’ll look into it.

I may add a project list to a later version where you can save different sets of links.

Hi Frank,

I just stumbled across your blog but am very intrigued about this BMDBuddy. I admit, I’ve had BMD for quite a while and other than using it to create accounts, it’s only the past few days I’m getting into it.

I’ll give your tool a try.

Btw, I’m gonna write you an email more about Link Luv Post Builder if that’s ok.

Thanks

Scott

The new Bookmarking Demon 4 beta does something similar I think. You can feed it some rss feeds and it will randomly add them along with your sites.

I just re-read the description of this software and realized that this wasn’t for adding more urls to post on, rather its for posting additional links along with your site links to make it seem more legit.

Which is great, thanks a lot. Do you also make a program that does the opposite and actually gathers links to “post on”. I’d be willing to pay for it :) If you don’t make one, can you recommend a program that does do this if so you can provide your affiliate link and Ill get it through that as my way of donating.

Thanks a million for this awesome software!!
