$5k is too much, if they really want to help people save money it should be around the 1 thousand mark

Way too expensive. My goodness. What's the point? I guess if I was a rich environmentalist I would do this. The rest of us just have to wait for technology to catch up and bring the price down.

Hi GPS,

I too have bought used cars for less than $10K.

There are cheaper home ethanol systems it's just this one is a complete package and relatively safe to use. I'm pretty sure Bubba and the boys didn't spend $10k on their backwoods still, unless you count the fine that John Law laid down on them.

Hi Jacob,

If he's like most elitists he'll be wondering why everybody else doesn't power their vehicles from wine and cheese production residue on their estate.

Sounds like I would want to be selling some of the ethanol to friends and neighbors to help pay for that hefty price tag! Wow, I, too, have bought used cars cheaper than that!

What a great invention; anything to get us out from under the heel of the guys selling oil. A home ethanol refinery seems a little out of my league right now, but I suspect if oil prices stay as high as they are, and a few more people buy a home ethanol refinery, then the price will start to come down.

I heard a funny related story about this on British radio (I listen on the Internet sometimes). It seems that Prince Charles has adapted his Aston Martin to run on -- wait for it -- red wine and cheese! Actually, I'm overstating it a little bit for comic effect, but he really is going to be running his car on some of the residue left from wine and cheese production on his estate

Hi Warenwirtschaft,

There are some cheaper ethanol stills around. You could just use an old radiator like Grandpa did back up in the hills. The trick is safety. Neighbors wouldn't look too kindly upon you blowing up your house and maybe theirs too.

Also, thanks for leaving meaningful comments to get into a Top Commentators spot. I appreciate it.

With gasoline costs roaring up this will be the market of the future. but i think central processing would be more effective than this homebased business.

Hi Vinny,

I'd like one of these too but it is a pretty hefty upfront investment. I've bought cheaper cars than what the EFuel unit costs.

You know, I might just buy an Ethonal Refinery when I buy my house. That's a nice ROI that also removes my dependence on the Oil tycoons. Hooray for two birds with one stone.
