Office Space Clip: Tom Smykowski Interviews with the Bobs
Here’s a clip, courtesy of Hulu, from one of my favorite Movies, Office Space. In this clip, Tom Smykowski, an older guy who has a cushy job in a technology company, faces a team of efficiency consultants nicknamed “The Bobs”.
Tom Smykowski is played by Richard Riehle, Bob Porter by Paul Willson and Bob Slydell by John C. McGinley.
This scene, while funny, is a familiar one to many older technical workers who are often placed in dead end, pseudo-management, jobs rather than being given the opportunity to expand their horizons through further training. When review time comes or “The Bobs” come to visit the company, they’re the typical cannon fodder for personnel cutbacks. I’ve been there myself. I had thought of this clip after watching Vic’s video about why he hates online scammers, Challenge To Get Mad, and, as it happened I found the clip on Hulu.
Anyway, let me know if you’re and fan of the movie and if you’ve been in a position like Tom. Oh, and I’m going to have to ask you to come in on Sunday too and finish up your TPS Report.

You have outstanding taste in movies. Office Space is one of my top ten movies of all time. The stuff in the movie never really happened to me when I worked for a corporation (3M)… for that I thought the British TV series The Office was a bit more spot on. The US TV series ROCKS too.
