Oh, noes! Here I go again with another music video post! Brian’s comment on Secret Guide to Social Blogging Success - Part III got me thinking about some of the lyrics to this song and I had to look it up on YouTube and so, here it is, Bruce Springsteen performing Prove It All Night in Phoenix, Arizona on July 8th, 1978.
I really like the intro guitar solo by Bruce on this performance. The Fender Telecaster, and its close cousin the Fender Esquire that Bruce is playing in this video, are my favorite electric guitar because you can wring so much emotion out of them for so many different kinds of music. They’re also known as the ‘truth detectors’ since they’ll also highlight when you screw up.
The song, Prove It All Night, is from Springsteen’s 1978 album Darkness on the Edge of Town. As seen in the video, Bruce and the E Street Band frequently stretched songs out during their supporting 1978 tour. The tour, where shows could last as long as 4 hours, became know as one of the greatest rock ‘n roll tours in history. One thing to note is that Springsteen was almost broke during this tour due to fighting a tough legal battle with a former manager. He had to put on a great show or else.
The song, Prove It All Night, is about young lovers taking chances to fulfill their love. Here’s the part of the lyrics that brought this song to my mind:
You hear the voices telling you not to go,
They made their choices and they’ll never know,
What it means to steal, to cheat, to lie,
What it’s like to live and die.
Makes you think, doesn’t it? Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video, particularly since it’s a good quality one that shows Springsteen at his prime, at least in my opinion.
UPDATE: This one gets pulled from time to time but somebody usually re-uploads it
