Elvis - Blue Christmas
OK, I admit it, I’m an Elvis fan. Here he is performing Billy Hayes’ and Jay W. Johnson’s Blue Christmas.
This clip is from his 1968 Comeback Special show that originally aired on December 3, 1968. They wanted a seasonal song in the show and Blue Christmas, which Elvis had originally recorded on his 1957 Christmas Album, was selected as the single holiday song for the show by director Steve Binder. When the show was repeated in the summer of ‘69, Tiger Man was used in place of it. If you get the DVD of the show you can see several different takes of this.
This segment was part of the ‘in the round’ casual show Elvis did with current and former band members. This atmosphere helped get him relaxed since he had spent most of his time in the sixties in a movie studio rather than on stage.
If you’re an Elvis fan, let me hear from you, leave a comment. Oh, and Merry Christmas.
