[...] Bye-Bye 125s - Frank, over at OpTempo.com did a review of my blog a couple of days ago. The next day, he made a post about taking down his 125×125 ads, and replacing them with an ad rotator plugin. Seems to be going against the grain, but works well on his site (I was enticed to click one of his new ads). I also wanted to thank Frank again for the advice in his review. He suggested I install the dagon design site map generator, which I agree makes navigation of my previous posts much easier. [...]

Thanks for the inspiration Colin,

So far as performance goes they are at least getting clicks, but no actual conversions yet.

I've always heard that ads greater than 250x250 performed better, even when not directly integrated into content, so it's time to put them to the test.

Hey you've got my attention now! ;) The ads look better each has their own space to work in and they're good ads, LCDS, sports, Buffy and music - great combination :) Almost makes me want to advertise on my blog. I too would be interested to see if this performs any better or worse than the 125s.

Thanks Todd,

One of my goals with OpTempo was to experiment with monetization, something that I didn't like doing that much on my programming blog.

Thanks for the click on the ad. Checks Unlimited has a 180 day cookie, which is nice. Most ads have a shorter click-thru duration while some have none at all.

Hi Frank,

I think that after the question "what should I write about?", the next question most bloggers have is "how much and what type of advertising should I display?". Please let us know how your experiment works out. p.s. my wife made me click on the Check ad to see if they have Tinkerbell ... she doesn't need any more just yet, but I bookmarked the site for when she runs out.

Great experiment idea. I'm also in the process of ad experimentation. I'm interested in finding out your test results.

Hi Alex,

Share-a-sale, Copeac and Azoogle track this on an ad-by-ad basis for me. By viewing my stats when I login to my accounts there I can tell which ads get views, clicks and, most importantly, money making actions.

If I was running my own custom ads I would probably write my own PHP redirect page that would save a count to a MySQL table.

Based on plugin description - it is a simple ads rotator ... how are you tracking performance of the ads? Unless you know which gets clicks and which doesn't - you entire rotation results can be compromised as one bad ad can make it look as not worthy effort ...

I would be interested to learn how you get around it? Separate tracking site? so you could add a unique link to each ad that you could track and see how many clicks it generates?

Please do share ..
