Bob Dylan Sells Out to Cadillac

Yes, the times they are a-changin’ as Bob Dylan hawks a Caddy SUV. Here’s a commercial he did for MyCadillacStory.com

To paraphrase the Don Henley song,

Out on the road today
I saw a Bob Dylan driving in a Cadillac
A voice inside my head said don’t look back
You can never look back

You’ve got to wonder what the young Bob would say to old Bob cruising around in a luxury car.

Is this the right approach to go after the boomer marketplace? I don’t think so since, even though they’re pushing 60, a Cadillac is still “Dad’s Car”. Can Dylan break it out of that mold? I doubt it because he’s too much of an anti establishment icon. Most people will look at it like, “Yeah, Bob’s cashin’ in, good for him.” while going over to buy a German or Japanese SUV.

What do you think? Can Dylan capture the boomer audience?

Thanks for stopping by,

I’ll have to check out your blog some more. I gave it a quick glance and it looks interesting.

I believe each series of Cadillac has its own segment. As long as Bob Dylan is not the ads ambassador for all Cadillac, then they will be just fine. They need to get another person to help to do the advertising for different series. Don’t you know that Even MotorTrend has elected Cadillac CTS as 2008 Car of the year? And for what I think, CTS does not look like a dad’s car :)

Hi Cadillac Sixteen Concept,

We used to own a ‘99 Catera we got rid of a few months ago. I think it was the second least reliable car I’ve ever owned, the worst being a ‘78 Chevette. I’ve had serious and ongoing problems with every GM vehicle I’ve ever owned except for my first car, a ‘68 Pontiac Bonneville. As you can guess GM isn’t on my hit parade.
