3 Ways to Set Your Online Business Apart From The Pack
If you’re selling dropshipped goods or commodity items you’ll find that just about everyone is using the same standard e-commerce templates, the same description text, the same everything. If everyone is selling the same thing and everybody looks the same then why should a customer buy from you? To make the sales you have to look and act different from the rest. Here are 3 ways to do it.
1. Pay for a Custom Template
Don’t use the cookie cutter approach. Instead, find a good web designer and have them build a template that’s unique, functional, and eye catching. People will remember and perhaps bookmark your site while the others will be forgotten.
2. Market Your Personality
Most people prefer the idea that they’re buying from another person, someone like themselves or someone they can relate to, rather than a faceless corporation. Put your personality into the business. For example, use folksy descriptions, use hand written thank you and/or follow-up notes, photograph yourself using the product, write an entertaining blog or any number of other things that let your personality shine through.
3. Use Exclusivity and Limited Time Offers
People like to feel exclusive and are competitive by nature. This can drive them to buy quickly. The pressure to buy can be real or imagined. For example, you could tinker with the code in your e-commerce software where it always showed "Only 3 Left At This Price" or you could show a “This special bonus offer expires on [always 18 hours from the current time] so act now!". While this isn’t a particularly honest approach and not one that I recommend there are a lot of businesses that do this and get away with it.
