TailoredMusic.com: Make Your Own Music
I ran across this site, TailoredMusic.com, this evening and found it rather intriguing not only from a music perspective but from a marketing perspective.
What you do is take one of their song templates, customize it to your relationship, pay them, and within a week or two they deliver ‘your’ version of the song via MP3 or CD. The price for this service starts at $169 and goes up from there. If you don’t like any of their templates you can commission them to write a song for you but that gets rather pricey.
If you need something unique for an anniversary or birthday it would make a good, romantic, gift.
As for marketing this service over the Internet, now that’s marketing genius. As an occasional musician myself I know how hard it is to get paying gigs. The owners of Tailored Music seem to have solved this musicians’ problem in a unique way.
Their promotional techniques, heavily using social bookmarking, seems to have landed them in hot water from time to time based on some blog entries I read about them. It’s a bold, low cost, viral marketing move though. It works in getting buzz out about a product. That’s why I’m writing this post.
What do you think? Would you order one of these songs for your significant other? Have you order one? If so, what were the results?
