Signed Up For Hulu Beta
I signed up for the beta of Hulu.com today, the new video joint venture between NBC and Fox. I guess I’ll find out later if I get accepted or not.
They had promised earlier this year that they would have it out in beta by October and they managed to pull it off with a day or so to spare.
The programming selection will be from Fox, NBC, E, Bravo, FX, SciFi, USA, and Universal. They’re also supposed to offer some form of video embedding similar to what YouTube does although there may be some limits on this .
One thing I’ve seen mentioned is that they will be heavily monetizing the site, perhaps requiring ad viewing before and during the show. Since I’m used to TiVo this could be a bit annoying.
Another rumored limitation is that only 5 episodes of a particular show will be online at a time. This seems kind of silly because, as most anyone who’s commercialized anything on the web knows, the more content you have the more advertising dollars you can make.
Another thing that I hope they do is put a lot of old shows on it, such as Babylon 5 and Lexx, two of my favorite SciFi Channel shows. This would make the service very much worth paying for, commercials or no commercials. A reasonable subscription fee of about $15 a month to view these shows would fine with me.
Have you signed up for it? What are your thoughts about it? Leave a comment and let me know.
