Hi Dave,

Akismet doesn't like you for some reason. I had to rescue your comment from there.

There are a lot of underserved niches out there but everyone wants to sell iPods/iPhones or the latest celebrity craze or, yes, talk about how to make money online when they aren't making any themselves. I've been primarily targeting these underserved niches myself and it's paid off rather well.

Interesting post. I'm a little amazed that it only had one trackback and one other comment in nearly a year. It's got what should be a catchy title and some good SEO possibities.

I'm a pre-baby boomer ... a 1945 model, born the year before the first of the "official" babyboomers. I think folks my age and slightly younger are a real under-served market. I've been onlne and earning from AdSense (and other sources, mainly affiliate CPA programs) for more thna three years. I make a lot li\ess thna $120k pe ryear but a heck of a ot more than $100 per year.

Right now a lot of blogging and ecommerce seems saturated with mainly younger folks who are very concious of their age ... they seem to write and work their business ideas under the creed of "I'm in my 20's or 30's and therefore I only write for/sell to my peers'. Nothing wrong with that, but ...

On the Internet no one knows how old you are. If you limnit your audinece only to what you think you persoanlly will buy, you are 'giving away' a hige segment of the potential market. Think abut who buys things, rather thna what age group a 'thing' appeals to. I'll wager there are at least as many kids with mp3 players that their grandma bought them as there are kids who actually earned money and bought them on their own ... it's the person with the credit card or the checking account whom you need t press the 'buy' button.

This is the other side of a coin that I've been tossing around for quite a while. Not only is it possible for the baby boom generation to make money with AdSense -- or many other forms of monetization on a website -- but there are huge markets available in selling to baby boomers.

While of course there are exceptions to every rule, on average the baby boomers were better educated than any previous generation, and as a result enjoyed a higher standard of living than any previous generation. Now they're moving into retirement and they have more disposable income than, again, any previous generation.

This is not a crowd to whom you can sell Lawrence Welk or Metamucil. But if you can find the well-designed, cool, and hip products that the baby boomers will be looking for as they try and age gracefully, there's gold in them thar wrinkles.
