Jin, the Next Character to Die on “Lost”
The new season of Lost is still a few months away but we now know that Jin will be the next character to die on the enigmatic show. How do we know this? Daniel Dae Kim, the actor who plays Jin, was arrested today for drunk driving in Honolulu.
As fans of the show know, Cynthia Watros (Libby), Michelle Rodriguez (Ana-Lucia) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Eko) characters all bit the dust on the show soon after the actors ran afoul of Hawaiian law enforcement.
Will Daniel Dae Kim break the “Lost Curse” and stay on the show?
My prediction already was that Jin had a short life expectancy. This incident just pushes it over the edge.
What do you think? Will he stay or will he go?
UPDATE 3-14-08
Well, as I predicted back in October, Jin is dead, at least in the future. Wasn’t that a wild flashback/flashforward episode?
It looks like that in the future we’re seeing Jin survived the crash along with the Oceanic 6 but that he was one of the two who were said to have died after the crash.
What do you think? What’s your Lost theory?
Oh, and one more thing. Check out Pop Critic for some great Lost discussions and recaps and other entertainment topics such as this one on this episode: Lost recap, episode 4×07: ‘Ji Yeon’ - What happened to Jin?
UPDATE 5-16-08
Interesting episode last night. Sun said the the Oceanic 6 interview that Jin died in the crash. Of course, we know differently. Messing around with a few hundred pounds of C4 in a ship in the middle of the ocean with a suicidal Michael by your side and where the deadman switch detonator for said explosives is strapped to the arm of a maniac your chances for long term survival go down.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out since the Oceanic 6 are scattered about with Sun and Aaron on the freighter, Hurley with Locke, Sayid and Kate with Alpert and the rest of the Others and Jack with Sawyer and Lapidus at the helicopter. Somehow they’ve got to all come together and leave the Island.
And, who are the two mystery survivors who they said survived the crash but didn’t live to be rescued?
Any theories?
UPDATE 5-29-08
OK, I guess we know now that Jin probably didn’t survive the detonation of the freighter bomb.
And I suppose the other two mystery survivors of the Oceanic 815 crash are probably Lapidus and Desmond. I would think that they just use the helicopter crash as a way to lie more convincingly about the airplane crash.
But, that was one wild episode. And Locke was in the coffin. Wow, just wow.

Well, he’s “dead” to the world, but that in no way means he’s dead back on the Island…
Interesting episode though…thanks for the link Frank, and for that Mirror Moon link awhile back.
Hi Mike,
I guess that depends on where he dies exactly, on the Island, on the freighter or somewhere else we don’t know about yet.
For those of you who’re swinging by this post from Google, make sure you check out Mike’s Pop Critics blog. I only occasionally cover entertainment topics, like Lost, on this blog but Mike’s is 100% dedicated to entertainment news and views.
The thing is though, we don’t KNOW that he actually died. The Oceanic 6 are known to be the only survivors, but we know that there are plenty left on the Island still, hence Jack wanting to go back.
So Jin could still be there, but the world thinks he’s dead and Sun keeps up appearances by visiting his grave.
It’s at least a possibility
On the grave stone it says 2004, 9, 22 downwards is that the date he died? in that case wasn’t that the date the plane crashed?
Hi Ole,
Yes, September 22, 2004 at 4:16 PM Island Standard Time (whatever that may be) is the official time of the crash.
Now here’s something else to ponder. Sun didn’t get pregnant until they had been on the Island for 37 days (per Juliet’s ultrasound in the episode D.O.C.). Wouldn’t a good OB/GYN pick up on this discrepancy?
JIN IS ALIVE AND KICKING!!!
Well, my one objection would be on your prediction regarding Jin. If you go back to when Sun gave birth to their daughter, we were led to believe that Jin was on his way to the hospital. But in fact he was going to visit one of Mr. Paik’s business colleagues who’s daughter or wife was also having a child on the same day with the panda he desperately gave as a gift. Remember Jin also made mention that he was newly married. In the last episode the fast forward showed Sun still prego when she brought a controlling share of her dad’s company. All of this obviously takes place after the freighter blows up. I believe that because Jin was at the very edge of the freighter, the explosions impact pushed him out into the water. He seems to have survive, gotten himself back to Korea and is still either working for Mr. Paik or forced to continue running errands for him. It may be possible that he is staying away from Sun at the request of Mr. Paik. How could he continue to be associated with Paik industries and marry again, having Sun thinking he’s dead and her family aware of his existence?
Let’s look closer…
Hi Anon,
In the episode you’re talking about, Ji Yeon, it was established that Sun’s segment was a flash forward while Jin’s was a flash back. This could be determined by the clerk at the toy store saying to Jin that it was the “Year of the Dragon” which would have been 2000, not 2004, when Oceanic 815 crashed, or afterward. You could also tell from the older model cell phone that Jin used.
