Led Zeppelin Enters 21st Century
Led Zeppelin, the rock super group of the 70’s, finally reached a decision among the 3 surviving members to sell their catalog online through iTunes. They’re going to be selling a 165 track collection for the low, low, price of $99, or 60 cents a track. They’ll also be selling individual tracks at the regular iTunes price.
Well, YAWN! Does anyone really care?
I’ve really never understood the hype these guys get and I was a teenager in the 70’s. Sure, they had a few hits and sold a lot of records but so did many other great, and more talented, bands in that decade. Jimmy Page influenced a lot of young guitar players in that generation because his sloppy drunk blues based playing style was easy to ape. Robert Plant served as a role model for frontmen of mediocre talent that could drive the women wild. John Paul Jones was a solid enough performer but nothing that outstanding. The real talent in the band was John Bonham. The other members were wise enough to realize this and closed up shop soon after his tragic death.
Agree? Disagree? Leave me a comment and let me know.

My 15 year old son loves Led Zep, and plays them all the time.
As for me, I’m pretty much where you are … I can enjoy the five or six songs I like, I appreciate how good they were at what they did … but I don’t particularly care for most of what they did.
My tastes from that period are more along the Joni Mitchell and John Martyn lines.
