Baby Name Map - Cool Google Maps App
I ran across this site tonight while doing a search, Baby Name Map. It lets you, "Discover the popularity of baby names around the world". Here’s a screen shot
The app was done by Guy Davis, who, judging from his blog, is one of those eccentric Linux/Java programmer types who can whip out something like this excellent program in a lazy afternoon. He decided to forgo advertising on the site, probably giving up a nice chunk of change. I wouldn’t do that myself these days but I used to do that when I was younger and more idealistic.
Anyway, check out his handiwork if you’re trying to decide on a baby name or just want to browse around to see what’s popular around the world.
Back in the 1980s, Heather was probably in the top 20 for girls’ names. Now it’s like 485 and Emma and Hannah are in the top 20. Funny how times change.
