DogsInDanger.com is a doing something about this by using the Internet to introduce dogs who’re on death row to potential owners. They show a countdown clock that indicates how much longer a dog has to live and where they’re located. They also have a "In Memoriam" section that features dogs that didn’t make it. Their goal is to present the brutal truth about these dogs that have a short time to live.
Their goal is to connect these endangered dogs with new owners via the power of the Internet. They’re a non-profit organization and seek only to insure that fewer dogs are euthanized. They believe by making people uncomfortable about the plight of these dogs that they will spur visitors into action.

…that is a sad statistic. I for one never get a dog from the pet store. I always go to the shelters to make my choice. And I prefer to go for the bigger, older dogs who have less of a chance of getting out of there than the smaller, younger ones. So sad.
