Site Review: GreenGem.Net
Steve decided to take me up on my free blog review offer so here it is.
What is GreenGem?
Here’s what Steve says about it.
Here at Greengem I write about Web Development in relation to blogging, Personal Development, Memetics, Evolutionary Theory and much more. There is a wealth of knowledge out there which, when applied to the online world can give us a deeper understanding on how the economy and sociology of the internet operates.
I kind of wish his About page said more about him but not everybody likes giving a lot of details about themselves.
Site Design/Theme
I like the way his site looks. His 3 column theme mixes green, gray, and white and it has a good Web 2.0 rounded look. Navigation is good, you shouldn’t have any problems finding anything he’s written.
His Adsense ads are blended well on the front page although their position probably limits their click-through. On single post pages the large rectangle block is a little bit in your face. It might work better to go with a less obtrusive 468×60 with a white background and border or try alternating between the two to see which produces the best results.
These is one little glitch where the del.icio.us icon gets kicked upward by the comment icon. Not a big deal but it might cause problems if other adjustments to the theme are made.
Content
Steve’s writings have a very philosophical bent to them. His articles, for the most part, aren’t a casual read and are somewhat thought provoking. A good example of this is his revolYOUtion posts:
Workplace revolYOUtion 1: Leisurebreak
The RevolYOUtion part 2 : The Real Self Mastery
He does think outside the box, such as this quote from the first article:
I would reduce workers lunch time down to about 45 minutes, instead of one hour. I would then start a program whereby you had to take 30 minutes of your day to go and have fun. It would be compulsory. The company would provide video games, board games, RPG’s, books, pool table and other activities, and for half an hour a day everyone would stop work and go and socialise and play games.
I don’t know if I’d want him for my boss though. I like my lunch time.
If you’re looking for a lot of well thought out science-based green philosophy and general advice, Steve’s your guy. Give his site a look.
